Alumni Association

In 1968 a meager camping program was born out of an old Boy Scout camp in Surry, Virginia. Since then a creative and impactful outdoors experience developed through the years on the shores of the James River. Summer after summer a wondrous legacy grew with each staffs' and campers' time at Chanco.

The "Spirit" of Chanco has gained momentum and the 20-year-old staff members in 1968 are now in their sixties. The campers of the first summer are currently in their fifties. Chanco has served thousands of children and several hundred staff members through the years.

A Chanco Alumni Association has just begun and is long overdue.  The CCAA provides support to Chanco on the James in many ways - they are organizing this year's alumni reunion, they raise funds for new equipment and scholarship, provide physical labor on the grounds, host "camp parties" and promote Chanco in their churches.  It is an organization of those lucky campers and staff who have experienced the humor, friendship, and spirituality of this unique camp. For more information on the CCAA, contact Greg Willis at greg@19thstreetdesign.com.
