Programs

If it is adventure you are looking for, then search no further. Camp Chanco offers a variety of programs that will test your skill, challenge your comfort level, and awaken areas of your soul you never knew were inside you. 2009 will be a banner year for our out-trip and Adventure Programs. Our new out-trips for 2009 are taken right from the elements: Land, Sea, and Air. Weather you are skilled with a paddle, love a good climb or want to spend all your time with your toes deep in the sand, we have the trip for you.

Don’t forget to look into the Beginner Mariner Camp if you want to learn a new skill in sailing or hone in on old ones. The Mariner Camp will wet your navigational skills in Zuma sailboats. Safety is strongly emphasized.

If it is high risk and challenge you are looking for, you might want to try the Land, Sea or Air Adventure Trip . Each has a unique blend of challenges which will test your limits and help you gain invaluable trust in yourself and others. Combined with learning Top-Roped climbing and rappelling, all of these new trips offer experiences in outdoor living. If skills of the group warrant, the Land Adventure group will journey deep into the earth’s crust by learning skills in vertical & horizontal caving.

For those who want to spend more time in the water our Sea Adventure will spend time whitewater rafting, beach camping on the Eastern Shore, and will end their trip on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where they can enjoy a jet boat tour of the sound and a day of group surfing lessons all while camping in the sand.

Campers live in rustic cabins in the woods. Resident session campers live in campsites with up to six campers per cabin. Two counselors per group live with the campers in their campsite. Many of our counselors were previous campers themselves. Some even travel from abroad to spend the summer at Camp Chanco.

Session 1 is a one week session geared towards 8 - 10 year old campers who are away from home often for the first time. Counselors live with the campers in their camp sites and provide guidance and friendship while teaching them exciting new activities. This session is from June 28th-July 3rd.  Drop off time is between 1:00-3:00pm.

Session 2 is a two week session and is open to a range of ages for parents who want to send several children to camp at the same time or need flexability in their busy summer schedules. Each age group has their own camp site and daily schedule that is designed with their age in mind. This session is from July 5th-July 17th.  Drop off time is between 1:00pm-3:00pm

Sessions 3 and 4 are for 11 - 15 year olds and 14 - 16 year olds, respectively, and both sessions last for two weeks. Camp provides an excellent opportunity for these age groups to make friends and try new adventures in a safe, socially supportive environment. Session 3 is from July 19-July 31 and Fourth Session is from August 2-August 14.  Both sessions have Sunday drop off times from 1:00pm-3:00pm.

$699 for the two week sessions = $54 per day for 13 days.

$399 for the one week session = $58 per day for six days.

Camp Chanco provides a safe place for youth of all ages…and they have fun discovering new adventures, building new skills and developing friendships that last a lifetime!

Chanco campers make long lasting friends who keep in touch throughout their lifetime. There is a Camp Chanco Alumni Association (CCAA) that keeps former campers and staff members current on camp programs, events, work weekends, fundraising events, and reunions scheduled throughout the year.

Junior & Senior High Conference

The Junior and Senior High Conference is back by popular demand and is one day longer this year based on the surveys completed by last year's participants!  The conference will be held from August 16th - August 21st and promises to be a fun-filled, faith-filled week!  The cost of the week is $275.00.  Experienced youth leaders volunteer their time for this conference making this camp week a highly affordable experience.

This conference blends the best of both traditional camping with a theme-based spiritual event. This year's theme is "On The Road" and conferees will learn, share and grow in large and small groups exploring where their road will take them, what obstacles they might encounter on their path, what they need "on the road" and who is with them on their journey.  This conference will challenge conferees with the activities and fun of camp life, while meeting new friends, building a hopeful community, and having an opportunity for emotional and spiritual growth with the guidance of experienced youth leaders.

One hundred percent of the teens who attended this conference last year responded in a survey that they would return and many stated it was the best retreat/camp experience that they had ever had!  Don't delay - register for this exceptional week and make summer memories and friends to last a lifetime!  Join us "On the Road"!
